Operations Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The North Florida PGA seeks an individual with a positive mindset and proactive approach to all situations to be a key member of the Section’s diverse professional team. The ideal candidate is a college student or recent graduate interested in gaining professional experience in sports event management and is expected to be self-motivated, have strong attention to detail, effective interpersonal skills, and have a functional knowledge of the game of golf.  The Operations Intern is expected to be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills, and have functional knowledge of golf tournaments or similar sporting events. Individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in various aspects of tournament management while contributing to the growth and success of an organization.  The Operations Intern will serve a 3-month term, with career development opportunities within the Section and the larger golf industry available at the end of the term.  The North Florida PGA will play an active role in the career development of a successful candidate.

ABOUT THE NORTH FLORIDA PGA

Orlando, FL | The North Florida Section of The PGA (NFPGA) is one of 41 Sections of America’s PGA. Formed in 1979, the North Florida PGA is the 3rd largest of the 41 geographic Sections that comprise the PGA of America. Approximately 1,500 PGA Members and Associates strive to promote the golf game’s enjoyment and growth in the North Florida Section. With its executive offices at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Orlando, the NFPGA is dedicated to serving its members and growing the game. North Florida PGA Professionals are the experts in the business of golf. They are responsible for conducting various golf-related functions, including general management, coaching, player engagement, tournament operations, merchandising, and more.

Our Territory

The NFPGA encompasses the forty-two counties east of the Apalachicola River (west of Tallahassee) to the Atlantic Ocean along the Florida / Georgia border.  The southern boundary is the counties of Brevard, Osceola, Highlands, and Charlotte.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all programs, services, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Section’s youth programs, which include the Drive, Chip & Putt, Junior PGA Championship, and PGA Jr. League Post-Season
  • Assist with operations of designated Section tournaments and special events
  • Pre/Post event administration ensuring Section best practices are followed
  • Develop and foster relationships with youth and parents
  • Onsite management of volunteers
  • Working with all staff and Section leadership

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE NORTH FLORIDA PGA:

  • Team player with strong organizational, planning, and communication (both verbal/written) skills
  • Willingness to be flexible
  • Proven ability to work with diverse backgrounds and skill sets
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks conforming to shifting priorities and timelines
  • Functional knowledge of Google Suite and web-savvy
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new technologies
  • Ability to work weekends and overnight travel

YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College student currently enrolled or a recent graduate in sports administration
  • Understanding of the game of golf
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required

  • Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to endure long periods outdoors in extreme weather
  • Ability to hear and to see both short and long distances
  • Able to operate a golf cart and drive a high-profile van

The compensation/benefits package includes:

  • Monthly stipend ($2,000 per month)
