Hours: 8:00 - 4:00 PM, Monday- Friday
Duration: May 2024 – August 2024
Reports to: Plant Manager
Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour
Boott Hydro, LLC is seeking additional staff to support our relicensing and dam safety program for our hydroelectric facilities located at 145 Pawtucket Street, Lowell, Massachusetts. The environmental/civil engineering intern will perform duties to facilitate safe hydroelectric generation. Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities may include:
• Assist the Plant Manager and hydro technician perform inspections of the facilities dams, gates, canals, powerhouse, and all water conveyance structures.
• Assist the Asset Manager and Chief Dam Safety Engineer in the preparations for the upcoming Comprehensive Assessment with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and our Independent Consultant team.
• Assist with implementation of the CapEx plan on major work to be performed at the facility.
• Assist with the identification of future CapEx work to be carried out in the 2025 CapEx year. Also, source vendors and contractors to perform future work at the facility.
• Review with documentation, reports, and plans for the facility.
• May assist with fishery and other studies to support relicensing of the project.
• May also assist the fish operation intern with fish trapping and lift operations. Operate equipment necessary to lift, capture and transport fish (under direct supervision).
• Help with any public tours of the facility.
• Other duties may be assigned within the powerhouse and facilities not limited to scanning documents, supporting relicensing activities, assisting with water management along the canals, etc.
Qualifications: Undergraduate Science majors- Sophomore year – Senior year; Graduate Science majors.
• 0-2 years of related experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
• Ability to solve practical problems and provide applicable solutions
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to frequently climb ladders and walkways
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from the floor to waist
• Love of the outdoors and working with the public to teach the importance of clean rivers and the function of watersheds.
This is a great opportunity for students to receive “hands on” experience with the complex interconnection of hydroelectric energy generation, upstream and downstream fish passage, regulatory requirements and public education.
