Communications Internship: Social Media, Videography, Graphic Design

New England Collegiate Baseball League Communications Internship

The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) seeks qualified Communications Interns for the upcoming season. The intern should be interested in pursuing a career in communications, media/public relations, digital media and/or graphic design, preferably in athletics at the collegiate or professional level.

The NECBL is one of the most prestigious wood bat college baseball leagues in the nation. Celebrating over 25 years of excellence in baseball and in the community, more than 200 alumni have gone on to play in the Major Leagues since the league’s inception.

The Communications Intern will serve on a team with 3-5 other interns, reporting to the Director of Communications. From May through August, the communications team works collaboratively to provide real-time coverage of all NECBL games, special events, announcements and achievements.

The communications intern’s responsibilities will include:

  • Writing daily game recaps and other press releases for posting on the NECBL website and sending to local, regional and national media outlets
  • Producing a variety of video content to engage with our players and followers
  • Improving the League’s presence on social media with daily contributions and/or monitoring on key platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Producing original and/or enhancing already-existing graphic design-based content to compliment league’s current digital media presence
  • Assisting with additional content for the League’s website, www.necbl.com
  • Ensuring up-to-date contacts with national and local media
  • Tracking NECBL alumni playing in Major and Minor League Baseball
  • Assisting on selection of and/or publicity of Weekly and Year End Awards and Top Prospects
  • Assisting with the League’s coverage of the NECBL All-Star Game and the MLB Draft
  • Promoting league-wide accomplishments to appropriate external stakeholders
  • Assisting in photographic coverage of games when applicable
  • Pitch ideas for written and video features and take lead role in producing said projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule/Travel: Interns will primarily work remotely watching games live streamed, but may travel to and attend a certain number of NECBL games throughout the summer and in different locations. Therefore, candidates who will have housing in the New England region this summer are preferred. Interns will have daily contact with the Director of Communications to discuss assignment, responsibilities and goals, and they will be expected to contribute content on their own remotely or at games they choose to attend. Attending the All-Star Game and/or the final round of the NECBL Playoffs is recommended.

Qualifications: Candidates should have prior experience in communications (print/digital journalism majors encouraged), graphic and video design, and/or social media management. Knowledge of baseball and the league are a must, as is the ability to credibly research and produce professionally written material. The successful candidates will also be versed in social media trends and be able to contribute new, innovative ways in which to boost the league’s presence in those areas. Preference will be given to candidates with graphic design/video editing experience, as well as those equipped with strong knowledge of Major League, Minor League and collegiate baseball. They will be required to follow the NECBL Code of Ethics Compliance Agreement as defined in the league’s bylaws.

Benefits: The internship will offer 3-6 hours of college credit and mileage to approved NECBL events. Travel stipends may also be available and will be discussed during the interview process.

The Communications Intern(s) will report to the Director of Communications. The interns’ responsibilities will begin by May 15th and end on August 31st. Interested individuals should apply as soon as possible by sending a cover letter, resume, writing sample and references to Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting, Alex Gutierrez at agutierrez@necbl.com.
