Advice
COMMUNICATE. Talk with your supervisor(s) if you're ever confused about anything! It doesn't hurt to ask questions.

Android App Developer
May - August 2021 • Lowell, MA
What I liked
I enjoyed learning how to code in a new language, and learning how to build an app. The learning was very open-ended, and I could practice in whatever way I pleased.
What I wish was different
I wish that there would have been some non-remote aspect to the co-op, as I never got to actually meet any of the people I was working with face to face.
Advice
I would suggest that anyone who wants to strengthen their computer science knowledge in between semesters should do a co-op like the one I did.

Psychologist Research Assistant
September 2020 • Lowell, MA
What I liked
My research adviser was kind enough to give me the opportunity to not only get involved in the research process from the literature search to the final drafts of a publishable academic chapter, but also to earn authorship through my hard work. I am unbelievably grateful to work alongside, rather than under, such an inspirational researcher in my field.
What I wish was different
Like many students interning in 2020, I do wish I could have experienced an on-campus project. I remain faithful in modern medicine and safety practices to ensure future years improve, and I am thankful my research specifically translate well to an online format.
Advice
I would tell a student seeking their first internship to go above and beyond what your adviser asks of you and show that regardless of your age or relative inexperience you are capable of making thoughtful contributions to the project at hand. Do not be afraid to advocate for yourself, however! Balance your hard work with hard work-life boundaries based on your employment contract.

Social Media Coordinator Intern
June 2019 • Lowell, MA
What I liked
I liked learning more about social media and what preparations actually go into making a post. Working here also allowed me to learn "hacks" that I could apply to my own personal social media presence. Overall, everyone in the office is very nice and they want to get to know you! It's a real honest and enjoyable environment. The hours are also extremely flexible and they understand that you're a student and school comes first!
What I wish was different
I wish I could have done more really creative things.
Advice
Working in social media made me want to spend less time on it at home. This can be both positive and negative. For me it was both. It allowed me to separate myself from my "online life" and be more present. It also encouraged me to stop posting as often as I once had. However, it was because I had a negative connotation associated with social media. Working in it makes you tired of staring at the same screen and pages 24/7.

What I liked
It was an amazing leadership experience where I got to learn how to be punctual and organized while being efficient in communicating with the incoming freshmen.

I wish the time dedicated to this job would be less as it was exhausting to work from 6am to 12 on the days of orientation.
Advice
